3rd Partial

Here are renders that show our advance in the modifications that we are going to do to our car.
Since the surveys show that people wanted changes in the headlights and grill (mainly) we focus on changing this parts of the car, in order to please our users.

We modify the grill and headlights, following the prefrences of our users, the grill is bigger and its shape is alike to the Audi TT Clubsport Quattro.
We also advance in the walls of the modelation, so it can be printed in the Z corp.

Painted PET models

In order to do our surveys we paint the PET models so that people can imagine how they would really look like and answer more accurately.

MDF AND PET

This are the MDF models that we use to create our PETmodels by thermoforming them.

Survey

Last class we have our PET models finished so we started applying the survey, our goal is to apply it to 40 people so we can obtain more accurate results.

With the results that we obtain from our survey we will decide which car are we going to choose in order to make modifications to it, taking into account of course the preferences of our users.

Using the surveys we ask the users for their preferences in cars, the shapes that they prefer, the colors, the different modifications that you can make to a car. We will base our decisions in the results of the survey that’s how we pretend that the final result will please our users.

PET models

Since we have the MDF models we have to sand them in order to create PET models using the “termoformado” machine, we sand the MDF models so the texture will be uniform, later on we apply soap in the model so the PET doesn’t attach to the model.

Now that we have already the models of our cars, we paint them, so that people can appreciate the shape and how the final model will be. Also we add to it some details like the lights and the windshield, so the shape and proportions are easier to understand.
Each one of our models is in a different color, because we are going to apply surveys, and one of our questions are focused in the color of the car, so in that way people can appreciate the different colors and finishes that the car can have and we will know which one is the best so we can also add it to our car.

CNC

Last class we went up stears to see how the CNC Works.

The machine uses a dust made out of polymer and also special glue, the process is easy, the machine spreads glue and then a layer of dust, and then again glue, over and over until the piece is finished.

When it is over you have to clean the piece and remove the excess of material later on you have to apply a layer of an special sealer that will make the piece stronger and provide a more resistant finish.

The materials involved in this process are very expensive so you have to be careful and avoid waste them by placing the pieces in the right way so you can save time and material.

MDF Models

In order for the Rolland machine to do our models, first we settled the file with all the specifications in the Modela 4player, we send the file to the Rolland and the process began.
You have to take into account that the maximum measurements of the Rolland are 60x40 so your model should not exceed that limits.
We place the MDF block inside, located the center and the high of the material, so the machine have the x, y and z parameters of the block.
The machine start working and this are the resultant models.
In order to improve the finish, we have to and the model to get a uniform surface and then be able to “termoformar”

.stl FILE and VisCAM View

In order to know if the rolland machine can made the prototype first you have to make sure that there are no mistakes and that the volume is complete.

In case of errors you have to modify the modelation and make sure there are no holes or at least reduce the number of errors so the machine can work with the file, to do this we use a program named VisCAM View that show in red the unmatched edges and in green the matched edges.

In order to open the file in VisCAM View, first you have to save it as a ".stl" file, by doing this you create a net of meshes.

An then you open the .stl files in VisCam View and obtain the image of the matching and unmathing edges, so you can send it to the machine or do the proper modifications.

renders

We have already made the proper modifications to the original model.

We generate new and different shapes that are showed in this renders, later on we have to choose one of the 3 different models and make sure that there are no holes or errors so the roland machine can work on it.

This are the renders.

Before modeling...

The black lines are the result of the scanning, you can appreciate the definition of the shape but they are not straight at all, that’s why we decided to straight them and based on the scanning we remade the lines and start sketching the redesign of the car using them as a reference.

Proposals

We made several sketches doing modifications to the cars between all of them we choose 3 that we modeled.

This are my three redesign proposals.

The next class we will select one of the three proposals and then start doing the redesign in detail.

modifications

Now that we have already assembled the scanning of the top and bottom part of the car, we can start doing modifications.

Last class, based on the measurements obtained by the scanning we start modeling in rhino different proposals and modifications that we want to do to the car.

Later on we will select the better ones and start with the process.

Rolland mdx20

Last class, we finish the process of scanning in the Rolland mdx 20

Using this machine we have scanned the top and the bottom part of our model, the next step is to start modifying the measurements.

To scann our model we use the software called Mr. Picza, first you have to select the precision of the scanning and then the area, determinating coordenates.

After that the machine tells you the estimated time that will require to scan your model, and the process began.

Rolland machine

In the Rolland machine, you place the object trying to use the minimum of space in order to accelerate the scanning.

The object is placed and fixated on the grid so that it won´t move at all.

The scanning starts when the needle, start moving and registrates in the computer the changes in the volume of the object each .5mm digitalizing the object and creating an INGES file.
